DIY Arabic Alphabet Memory Game

Assalamu Alaikum!

In this post we will be showing you how we made this simple memory game craft. We think it is especially fun for younger children who are learning the Arabic alphabet. Let's begin!

For this project you will need:-
plain card
pencil
pen
ruler
colour-pencils

First draw 4 rows of 7 rectangles on two A4 sized cards. You should have 56 rectangles in total, 28 on each card.

Go over your lines in pen.
Next write out the alphabet. (You can also write out the pronunciation of the letter in English.)
Go over the letters in a thick pen.
You could be done at this step, but we went ahead and drew some designs around the letters and coloured them in to make them more colourful.
Then cut them out and you're ready to play. It could also double as a jigsaw, since all the pieces need to be arranged in the correct order to see the full design!
To play:
Shuffle the cards face-down and then line them up.
Players take it in turns to flip two cards at a time and then turn them back face-down.
The aim of the game is to try and remember the letters on the cards that you see and collect as many pairs as you can.
Have fun playing with your new game! It would also make a nice handmade gift for a toddler. See you next week, insha'Allah!

Gardening Update: Tomato

Assalamu Alaykum everyone!
Maryam here! As many of you may know I started gardening for the first time last year in September. I've done a few posts since then on decorating my Gardening Journal, the different plants I'm growing and a post on the first potatoes I've ever grown!
This post is on my Tomato plants which started flowering at the end of December, last year. Masha'Allah, since then a single tomato formed and I took some photos of the transformation. Take a look!
Day 72 (since seed was planted)...
...day 85...
...day 119...
...day 131...
...day 132.
I picked the tomato that day and left it in a dark place for a couple of days, and it turned really red in colour masha'Allah!
We ate it on its own to taste the full flavour of the tomato, any spices or food would definitely have altered the taste.
Masha'Allah it was very yummy, and SubhanAllah, home-grown food always tastes better than shop-bought.

Well that's all for this mid-week post. See you all on Friday insha'Allah!

Love and wasalaam,

Maryam.

Funny Books to Read

Assalamu Alaikum!

It's Sumayyah here and today I'll be doing another book recommendations post.

1. Zesty
by: Sam McBratney

Jimmy Zest is never short of good ideas. At least, he thinks they're good. But his friends don't always agree, as they're the ones who seem to get the blame when things go wrong. Still, why worry about that when there's fowl play in the park to be uncovered, horse-hair tails to be discovered, and a missing tortoise to be recovered?

This is a series but I have only read this one. It is a very enjoyable book. Zesty is about a boy named Jimmy Zest who is smart, cunning, calm and witty. In this book there are five short stories and each are good.

2. James and the Giant Peach
by: Roald Dahl
This is a nice and funny book for children who are about 9+ years old. The characters are interesting and I like the drawings by Quentin Blake. It is about an orphan boy who goes to live with his two aunts; Aunt Spiker and Aunt Sponge. He ends up going on an adventure with some giant creepy-crawlies; a grasshopper, a spider, an earthworm, a centipede, a silkworm, a glow-worm and a ladybird. By the way, a lot of Roald Dahl's books are fantasies and contain magic; including this one. If that is not what you like then you can skip this book.

3. The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn
by: Hergé
Tintin is a reporter who goes on adventures with his faithful dog, Snowy. On this adventure he and Captain Haddock go on a mission to discover the captain's ancestors' ship, named The Unicorn.
I like this book because Tintin is very clever and Captain Haddock is very funny. This comic is bound to make you laugh and chuckle.

4. Where the Sidewalk Ends
by: Shel Silverstein
This book is a collection of poems and funny drawings by Shel Silverstein. Some are short...
...and others are long...
...and some are just plain funny...
...and this one is just adorable!
Well, that is all. I really hope you enjoyed this post.

Wassalam,
