3 Creative DIY Bookmarks

Assalamu Alaikum everyone!
This week we are going to be showing you how to make three easy and fun bookmarks.

1. Shaker Bookmark
For this craft you will need:-
a clear plastic jacket
sequins or shiny foil shapes
card
tape
a hole puncher
wool or ribbon
Begin by cutting a rectangle out of the card and another out of the plastic jacket. Make sure they are the same size.

Tape them together using the tape. Only tape three of the sides though.
Next fill the bookmark with pretty sequins and tape it shut.
Punch a hole at the top and add the wool.
Now enjoy your handmade shaker bookmark!
2. Ribbon 'n' Button Bookmark
For this craft you will need:-
some elastic rope
thick ribbon
some thread
a button

Start by cutting the ribbon to a length of around 13 inches. (Actually it would be better to cut it to 15 inches but we were making this bookmark for a smallish book).

Tie your elastic rope. It should be roughly 3 inches in length.
Then loop your ribbon through the elastic rope and sew it to itself as shown below.

Sew the button onto the other end of the ribbon.
Now your bookmark is complete! Simply place it on your page and wrap it around the front of your book.

3. Paperclip Bookmark
For this craft you will need:-
paperclips
wool (any colours)
beads

First tie the different coloured wool around the top of the paperclip.
You can then add a large bead and tie a knot.
Finish off with some smaller lettered beads and trim the ends of the wool.
Now clip it in your book to mark your page.
This is such an easy bookmark to make. It's so simple and cute!

We hope you liked the post and we will see you next Friday insha'Allah.

DIY Notebook Covers

Assalamu Alaykum!

Zainab and Sumayyah here! This week we are showing you our DIY notebook covers. You can decorate your own books using anything you like.

These are the things that Sumayyah used for hers:-
Old yellowed paper
White glue and UHU glue
Watercolour paints
Oil paints
Felt-tip pens
White pen
Mod podge

First I covered the front and back of my notebook with the old paper.
Then I painted it with oil paints.
Next I made a pattern using a white pen and went over it with blue and purple markers.
I added a lot of moons in the background using watercolour paints.
I went over everything with mod podge and added dragon silhouettes. This is the back of the book.
I wanted my notebook to be a dragon themed one and this is how it turned out!
For Zainab's notebook:
I started off in the same way that Sumayyah did. I used watercolour paints for the background and only used oil paints for the border.
I wanted mine to have a nature theme and so I used patterned cards and pressed flowers and leaves.
Then I made a collage on the front.
I stamped my name onto a piece of paper and added it to the cover. I also added tiny gem stickers around the flower.
This is how my book looks now.
We really enjoyed decorating these notebooks and hope that you have gotten inspiration from our work.

Strawberry Lemonade Recipe

Assalamu Alaikum!

It's Hanifah and today I'm here with a recipe for this delicious strawberry lemonade. I always make the lemonade in our house and I usually like to add a twist to it. This time the twist was strawberries. I think my favourite part is the pretty colour.

So, for this recipe you will need:-

6 large lemons
1.5 cups of strawberries
150g granulated sugar
1.5 litres of water

You will also need:-

1 large pan
a sieve
a funnel (optional)
large bottle or jar

Begin by mashing the strawberries with a fork or by sticking them in a blender. Save a few to garnish if you would like to.
Next, cut and squeeze the lemons.

Pour the water into a large pan and add the sugar. Heat the pan gently and mix until the sugar dissolves.

Then add the mashed strawberries. Let sit for around 10 minutes on a low heat stirring occasionally.

You could add the lemon juice at the same time but I like to wait a while for the strawberry flavour to sink in. I'm not really sure that it makes a difference though so you don't have to. :)
Once you've stirred in the lemon juice you can turn off the heat. Taste and add more sugar if needed.

Let it cool for a bit before sieving it into a large jar or bottle.

Serve cold and garnish with the extra strawberries.
Enjoy!
