Lazy Vegan Brownies Recipe

Assalamu Alaikum everyone!
It's Hanifah here again this week! This time I wanted to do a recipe post as I haven't done one in a while. These brownies are so easy to whip up and taste really good too, masha'Allah. They are also vegan, nut-free, grain-free and sugar-free!

Ingredients:-
1 cup pitted Medjool dates
3/4 cup cacao powder
1 cup tahini
1/3 cup plant milk (I used Macadamia milk)
1 flax egg (1 tbsp. flaxseed powder + 3 tbsp. water)
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tbsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup dark chocolate chunks

1. First you will need to make your flax egg. Combine 1 tablespoon of flaxseed powder with 3 tablespoons of water. Stir and set aside for 5 minutes to thicken.

2. In the meantime, grease(I used rapeseed oil) a 9x9 inch baking pan and preheat your oven to 177 degrees Celsius, 350 degrees Fahrenheit, Gas Mark 4.
3. To make the brownie mix, simply place all your ingredients(except for the chocolate chunks) into a food processor.
4. Then blend on a high speed for around 1 minute until the batter is thick and smooth.
5. Next, add the chocolate chunks and pulse until they are somewhat evenly distributed.
5. Spread the brownie batter evenly into the baking pan using a spatula.
6. Bake for 15 minutes, then allow to cool completely before slicing.
These will keep for up to 3 days at room temperature and you can also freeze them if you like.
Enjoy!
I hope you liked this recipe and that you give it a try someday. Until next time!

Wassalam,

Hanifah

4 Classic Books Every Girl Should Read

Assalamu Alaikum!

It's Hanifah here and I've come up with a few books that I believe every girl should read by the age of 15. I think these books would appeal more to girls, as they all contain female main characters, but of course boys could enjoy them too!

1. Heidi
By: Johanna Spyri
This is a beautiful, simple story about a little orphan girl named Heidi who is sent to live with her grandfather in his home high in the Alps. Her grumpy grandfather soon warms to her, as she has a way of bringing joy to all those she meets. Although it is over 100 years old, the book is still relevant to a modern day audience; it tackles some of the basic and important issues in life such as wealth and poverty, sickness and health, God and humankind, etc. Johanna Spyri is a wonderful storyteller and this book of hers is a must read!

2. Anne of Green Gables
By: L. M. Montgomery
Just as with Heidi, Anne is an orphan and she is mistakenly adopted by Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert(who had actually wanted to adopt a boy) and ends up living on their farm at Green Gables. Anne is a chatty, imaginative child who is eager to please and rather dramatic. She has her faults; she can be stubborn and hot-tempered, and she very much despises her red hair and freckles. I loved this book and would actually like to read it again when I find the time to, insha'Allah.

3. The Railway Children
By: E. Nesbit
Roberta, Peter and Phyllis are three lucky children who have everything they need - pretty clothes, good fires and wonderful parents. Despite all this they are not spoilt, rich children, they are just 'ordinary suburban children'. However, all this changes late one evening when their father is called away on 'business'. They are certain something terrible has happened and their mother seems sad and worried but won't say why. Soon they have to leave their lovely London home and move to a simple cottage in the country where their mother writes books to make ends meet. The children come to love the railway that runs near their cottage. They make new friends and have many adventures, as well as try to solve the mystery of their father's disappearance. The Railway Children is such a sweet story and an all time favourite of mine.

4. Emma
By: Jane Austen
Emma Woodhouse is a clever and rich, young woman. She lives with her father who is very dependent on her and relies on her to keep him content and in good spirits. Due to this responsibility she feels she cannot marry as she can't leave him alone. Thus, she amuses herself by playing matchmaker and has developed a habit of meddling in other people's affairs, which often gets her into trouble. You may find this strange, but I actually do not like Emma even though she is the main character in the novel! I find her to be selfish and cold( Jane Austen herself wrote "I am going to take a heroine whom no one but myself will much like" when she decided to write the book), however, there is no denying the fact that the story is brilliant and the characters intriguing and convincing. This is a book for older girls; it was a bit of a slow read for me as there is so much going on and you need time to process everything. However, it is a very entertaining book and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Well, that's all I have time for today. I hope you liked this book recommendations post and I'll see you next week, insha'Allah.

Wassalam,

Hanifah

Childhood Memories: Old Drawings

Assalamu Alaikum everyone!
Today we thought we would share with you some of our old drawings that we have kept from years ago. We noticed, when choosing our drawings, that we all have a different style. That has always made it even more fun to look through each others work since we didn't know what to expect.
Over the years we have all enjoyed trying out different ways of drawing, from cartoons/comics to realistic intricate landscapes and we really like each kind.
So! Without further delay, let's jump straight into the pictures.

Maryam's Drawings

The two drawings that Maryam chose to share were ones she had done when she was 13 years old. As kids we went through a phase of taking an A4-size sheet of paper with the intention to draw a scene and colour it in without leaving a single speck of white from the paper. These were her first two.
They are "made up" creatures (inspired by dinosaurs), each "species" telling its own story. You can click on the pictures for a closer look.

Zainab's Drawings

Zainab's favourite animal is a horse, so it's no surprise to us that she is sharing some of her many horse/pony drawings which are really nice, masha'Allah.

Sumayyah's drawings

These are some of Sumayyah's drawings that she chose to share.

Hanifah's Drawings

And last but not least, here are some of Hanifah's, masha'Allah.

Well that is all we have time for today. We hope you liked seeing some of our old drawings and if you would like to see more of our Childhood Memories post you can click here.
Do you like drawing and do you have a particular style (sketch/cartoon/comic/intricate landscape or portrait spreads) let us know in the comments below.
Until next Friday, insha'Allah.

That's all we wanted to say. Insha'Allah you are all having a lovely day and we will see you all on Friday, insha'Allah.

Crochet Doll's Scarves and Shoes (Part 4)

Assalamu Alaikum everyone!
It's Maryam and Zainab here this week! As you know we both really enjoy crocheting, so we are back with another post showing some of our latest projects.
We both made scarves, Maryam the long pink one and the fine brown one, Zainab the grey and white scarf.
They were not hard to make, each one taking less than an hour (However the brown one did take Maryam a few hours because she was using very fine embroidery thread).
Zainab also made these adorable little crocheted shoes. Masha'Allah they are so cute! Again, very easy to make.
We didn't follow a tutorial purely because they were very simple to make. For the scarves you just chain as long as you want the scarf to be and then go up and down it with a single stitch!
We hope you liked this post and if you have never crocheted we hope you give it a go, because it is very relaxing, masha'Allah!
Well that is all for today. Until next week, insha'Allah!
Love and wasalaam,

Maryam and Zainab
