Simple Vegan Carrot Cake Recipe

Assalamu Alaikum everyone!
It's Hanifah here. Today I'm going to show you how to make this easy vegan carrot cake. I am interested in vegan baking and have been doing some experimenting with a few of our family's favourite recipes. This one was a success, alhamdulillah, and so I thought I'd share it.

Ingredients:-
2 ¼ cups self-raising flour
2 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
1 tsp salt
1 cup cane sugar
1 cup oats milk
½ cup coconut oil
½ cup unsweetened applesauce(I made my own)
½ tsp vanilla extract
2 cups grated carrots

1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cinnamon, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda and salt.
2. In a separate bowl, whisk the sugar, oats milk, coconut oil, applesauce and vanilla. If you are making your own applesauce it would be best to make it ahead of time.
3. Mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients.
4. Then fold in the grated carrots. Be sure not to over-stir the mixture.
5. Preheat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius, 350 degrees Fahrenheit, Gas Mark 4.
6. Bake on the middle shelf for 35-40 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
7. Allow the cake to cool for a bit before transferring to a wire rack.
8. Store in the fridge. It is nice served warm or cold.
Enjoy!
See you next Friday, insha'Allah.

Wassalam,

Hanifah

Sumayyah's Series Book Recommendations

Assalamu Alaikum everyone!

Sumayyah here. Today I'm going to do a series book recommendations post. I have some nice books here for you. I hope you will enjoy them!

1. Tom Gates
This is one of my favourite series, because it's so nice, funny and amazing! It's about a boy called Tom Gates and in the books he tells you about what's happening in his life. It's very funny and nice, and he gets himself into trouble quite often. My favourite book in the whole series is Tom Gates Excellent Excuses. It was the first book I read even though it's the second one in the series. Liz Pichon is the illustrator and author, and does lovely illustrations.

2. Mr. Men
This is a cute, adorable and short series which is perfect for younger kids. The first book I ever read was Mr. Greedy. He is adorable and so is everyone else. Each book is about a different character. For example, Mr. Happy, Mr. Nosey, Mr. Snow, Mr. Sneeze, Mr. Rude, Mr. Tall, Mr. Small, Mr. Good and Mr. Nobody and many more.

3. Geronimo Stilton
I like Geronimo Stilton because it's about mice who run a newspaper called the Rodents Gazette. Geronimo and his sister Thea and his cousin Trap and his nephew Benjamin go on exciting adventures. The first book is Geronimo Stilton Lost Treasure of the Emerald Eye and I really like it. Geronimo is a fraidy-mouse(even though the name Geronimo sounds like a daring thing).

4. The Amazing Days of Abby Hayes
This series is about a girl called Abby Hayes and she tells you about her life at school and at home. I like her because she is funny and smart. Her favourite colour is purple and she likes collecting calendars. At the beginning of every chapter she puts a quote by a famous person.

5. Izzy and her friends
This series is about a girl named Izzy and she and her friends have some interesting adventures. Like when they find out that their teacher is an alien! Or when they find out that their headmaster is a vampire rat! Or(my personal favourite) when they find out that their new PE teacher is a werewolf and is going to feast on them when they go camping! Actually I don't really think that the series has an actual title. But the characters in each book are the same so it is a series.

So that's it! I hope you enjoyed my series book recommendations. If you want to see my previous Read-Aloud book recommendations you can click HERE.

Wassalam everyone!

Junk Journal Flip-through

Assalamu Alaikum everyone!
Maryam here. As promised I'll be showing you a flip-through of my junk journal. It took me about a day to make and, masha'Allah, I am very happy with the way it has turned out.

I kept the cover very simple.
This is the back of the journal.
On the spine I punched a hole and hung some charms and beads. Some were gifted to me and others I found around the house.
The inside cover I just kept plain and I stuck some lace down the inner spine.
For the pages I used different sized card, patterned paper and lined paper.
I also added some fabric for texture.
You can watch this tutorial which I found helpful for binding the journal.
I also added some fold-out pages and envelopes.
On the ends of some of the pages I stapled tabs for decoration.
And that is the end of the flip-through. I can't wait to fill it up with memories, stories and poems, insha'Allah!
I hope you liked this post and I'll see you again next week, insha'Allah.

Wassalam,

Maryam

DIY Pirate's Spyglass

Assalamu Alaikum!
When you think of pirates, certain things always come to mind: buried treasure, desert islands and swordfights. There are many useful things a pirate might have on his person such as a pocket knife, compass, treasure map, spyglass and even a talking parrot!
Today we will be showing you how to make a spyglass. It's a relatively easy craft so let's begin!

You will need:-
2 toilet roll tubes
1/2 kitchen roll tube(cut one in half)
paints
scissors
needle and thread
glue
stickers and markers(to decorate)

First you will need to paint all the tubes in whatever colours you like.
Next take one of the toilet roll tubes and cut along the curved line. Then cut out this spiral-like shape. It's hard to explain but hopefully the photo will show you the shape you should end up with.
Now you will need to sew one end of the spiral to the inside of the kitchen roll tube. It should be sewn roughly in the centre.
Then you can glue the other end of the spiral to the outside of the toilet roll tube.
Now decorate with whatever you like. You could even stick on gems and jewels to make it fancier.
And you're done!
Now you can enjoy playing pirates with your very own DIY spyglasses! See how Zainab and Sumayyah turned these bean bags into a couple of barren islands? With a little imagination anything can happen. Can you smell the salty sea air and hear those seagulls shrieking?
We hope you liked the craft and will see you again next week, insha'Allah.

Wassalam,
