Assalamu Alaikum!
It's Sumayyah here and today I'll be doing another book recommendations post.
1. Zesty
by: Sam McBratney
Jimmy Zest is never short of good ideas. At least, he thinks they're good. But his friends don't always agree, as they're the ones who seem to get the blame when things go wrong. Still, why worry about that when there's fowl play in the park to be uncovered, horse-hair tails to be discovered, and a missing tortoise to be recovered?
This is a series but I have only read this one. It is a very enjoyable book. Zesty is about a boy named Jimmy Zest who is smart, cunning, calm and witty. In this book there are five short stories and each are good.
2. James and the Giant Peach
by: Roald Dahl
This is a nice and funny book for children who are about 9+ years old. The characters are interesting and I like the drawings by Quentin Blake. It is about an orphan boy who goes to live with his two aunts; Aunt Spiker and Aunt Sponge. He ends up going on an adventure with some giant creepy-crawlies; a grasshopper, a spider, an earthworm, a centipede, a silkworm, a glow-worm and a ladybird. By the way, a lot of Roald Dahl's books are fantasies and contain magic; including this one. If that is not what you like then you can skip this book.
3. The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn
by: Hergé
Tintin is a reporter who goes on adventures with his faithful dog, Snowy. On this adventure he and Captain Haddock go on a mission to discover the captain's ancestors' ship, named The Unicorn.
I like this book because Tintin is very clever and Captain Haddock is very funny. This comic is bound to make you laugh and chuckle.
4. Where the Sidewalk Ends
by: Shel Silverstein
This book is a collection of poems and funny drawings by Shel Silverstein. Some are short...
...and others are long...
...and some are just plain funny...
...and this one is just adorable!
Well, that is all. I really hope you enjoyed this post.
Wassalam,
Sumayyah
Assalaamu Alaikum.
ReplyDeleteMashaa Allaah I really want to read some of the books (especially 'Where the Sidewalk Ends').
Just a note on magic and fantasies: Please check this website https://www.troid.org/authors/western-speakers-english-lecturers/36-musa-richardson/691-the-evils-of-harry-potter-and-the-kufr-of-magic
And the text: https://www.troid.org/media/transcription/EvilsOfHarryPotter.pdf
As well as this paragraph.
There are many things that nullify a persons Islām, however, there are the most common ones that are practised or that the Muslims fall into more often than others. One of them being magic and one of them, this one specifically was singled out in this book, the ten things that Muslims fall into most commonly that cause them to leave Islam, and he said the seventh one: magic. Like magic used to bring two people together and magic that causes two people to be separated from each other. You could say there is good and bad magic or perhaps white and bad magic, both of them, anyone who does that magic or is pleased with it has disbelieved and he mentioned some of the proofs that we have mentioned already.
