5 Series Books For Kids

Assalamu Alaykum!
Zainab here!
Today I would like to share with all of you five series of books that I really enjoyed reading. So here is my list:-

1. Scarlet and Ivy

The first series is called Scarlet and Ivy, by Sophie Cleverly, which is about identical twin sisters. There are four books in the series, and the fifth book is coming soon.

The first book follows the story of Ivy, the more timid and shy twin, whose sister Scarlet unfortunately passes away at her boarding school. Ivy is invited to "take her place", but soon finds out that the truth about her sister's disappearance is being concealed.

I believe the age range for this series would be from ten to possibly fourteen year olds, and they are more of a girl's book because they are set in an all girls boarding school, and the main characters are girls.

I think that older girls would find it too childish, however, younger girls would enjoy the mysteries and plots. The thing I enjoy about the books is that once you start reading them, you find yourself hooked and want to know what happens next. The books are pacey and don't linger with something new every time.
I think girls who are into mystery and adventure books would enjoy the Scarlet and Ivy series very much insha'Allah.

Coming Soon:

2. A Series Of Unfortunate Events
Book One:

The next series is called A Series of Unfortunate Events, by Lemony Snicket, with thirteen books to be read. It is about Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire, three siblings whose parents unfortunately perish in a fire that destroys their entire home.

In the first book they are sent to live with a distant relative, where their lives are miserable. Their relative, Count Olaf has a sinister plan to seize the Baudelaire fortune, and in each book, no matter where the siblings go, he is always finding a way to get to them.

I love this series because it is funny, full of mysteries, and very entertaining. The age-range I think should be for thirteen and above, simply because younger kids won't be able to appreciate the witty way in which the books are written. I think both boys and girls would like these books.

The only thing to be aware of is that if you want to read the series, it is best to have all thirteen books. This is because so much happens in each book, and it is easy to forget the little hints and clues that add up in the end. One good thing about this is that you can return to the books after a while, and it will be like reading it all for the first time. It's just as funny and exciting.

3. Clarice Bean
Book One:

The third series is called Clarice Bean, by Lauren Child, about a girl and her life at school. Clarice Bean is a funny, lovable girl who in each book has something new to busy herself with, whether it's trying to win a prize, trying to be good in school to star in a play, or trying to cope with all her worries about moving house and everything around her changing for the worst. Clarice loves reading books and gets into all sorts of trouble no matter how hard she tries to be good.

I like these books because they are full of humour and are through the eyes of a young girl, yet I think girls of any age would like Clarice Bean.

4. Ruby Redfort
Book One:

The next series is also by Lauren Child, and is called Ruby Redfort. Ruby is an intelligent thirteen-year-old girl who finds herself working for a secret agency known as Spectrum. There are six books in the series, the last one came out last year. The first four books are about different cases Ruby has to solve, while the fifth and sixth books are the ones where Ruby realises all her cases are linked somehow, that there is a bigger villain behind it all. I enjoyed the last book very much as you realise, along with Ruby, that she is not sure who she can really trust anymore.

I find the Ruby Redfort series to be more of a girl's book, and I began reading them when I was thirteen. Ruby Redfort is actually mentioned in each Clarice Bean book as Clarice Bean is really into spies, gadgets and coded messages.

5. The Spiderwick Chronicles

My last series is called The Spiderwick Chronicles, a five book series about a boy named Jared and his two siblings. In the first book they move to a new house with their mum, a house that belonged to an old relative who passed away a long time ago, named Arthur Spiderwick. Jared soon finds an old book belonging to Arthur Spiderwick, and it contains information about the mystical creatures that live around them. Jared doesn't know that there are creatures out there who desperately want the book, and owning it puts him and his family in danger.

One of the reasons why I like this series is because of the illustrations, they are beautiful yet dark at the same time. I think that both boys and girls would like the series.

I hope you liked this post and that you decide to read some of these books!

Wassalam,

Zainab
