10 Basic Journaling Supplies

Assalamu Alaikum!
As you may have noticed from our previous posts we all really enjoy journaling. We find it to be a very relaxing and therapeutic hobby and a great way to record fun memories. There is no particular way to journal but if you are new to journaling/scrapbooking then this post is for you! Insha'Allah we want to help you get started by listing some basic journaling supplies that we believe every beginner should have.
*Note: we're not going to include basic stationary supplies such as pens, scissors, rulers, etc. as we assume you already have them.* :)
You can click here to see our post on our 10 basic stationary supplies.

1. Single Hole Puncher
We use hole punchers all the time but we actually use the single hole puncher more often. All in all, it's a handy tool to have around.

2. Patterned Paper/Card
This is especially useful for people who prefer a more visual journal with a collage-y, scrapbook-like feel to it.

3. Colour Pencils, Felt-tips and Crayons
If you have a plain journal and want to add some colour to it then why not draw some pictures or use colourful pens to write with? In our opinion, a set of colours is a must have item!

4. Paint Set
Sometimes a blank white page can look a bit scary but painting a simple background can help you get started. You don't need to paint a scenery; just adding a bit of colour will do. You also don't need to spend money on an expensive paint set, if you just want to brighten things up a bit; a cheap set will do fine.

5. Washi Tape
Decorative tape can be used for making boarders, filling up empty spaces, collaging and overall just adds another layer of goodness to any page!

6. Stencils
If you are not very good at drawing or at writing big words neatly then stencils are for you! There are lots of different types to choose from so it really depends on what you are looking for.

7. Stamps
If you want an alternative to stencils then why not give stamps a go? You can find ones with numbers, letters and even silhouette shapes and images.

8. Sewing Kit
A basic sewing kit is especially useful if you plan on making your own journals. You could also sew things into your journal instead of always gluing and taping them down.

9. Stapler
Stapling is another way to add things to your journal and they are unlikely to become loose and fall out.

10. Stickers
Stickers are a nice way to brighten up your pages and you are likely to find ones that relate to almost anything you are journaling about. However, be aware that cheaper stickers tend to loose their stickiness over time, so you should probably glue them down.

Well, those are all our recommendations for what we would include in a beginner's journaling kit. Now of course you don't need ALL of these things, it just depends on how you want to journal, but we have found them to be useful.
We hope you enjoyed reading this post and we will see you next Friday, insha'Allah.

Love and Wassalam,
