Assalamu Alaikum!
Maryam here! This months recipe is how to make Wholemeal Bread and is one I have really looked forward to sharing with you all. Baking from home is always a cheaper, healthier and, of course, enjoyable option to simply buying it from the shops.
Incase you are unaware, in our family, our parents try their hardest to buy Organic, Non-GMO foods as much as possible. It is sooo much better for the environment, animals, and of course, your health. But finding Organic bread loafs we've found very hard, but I noticed that most of the ingredients needed to make bread we can find Organic and so whenever I have the time I bake wholemeal loafs for our family and, masha'Allah, I've really enjoyed it. Today I'd like to share the recipe with you in the hopes that you might give it ago, because coming home to the aroma of freshly baked bread is always a pleasing thing, alhamdulillah.
Let's begin!
Ingredients:
(This recipe makes one loaf)
(This recipe makes one loaf)
2 cups wholemeal flour
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 tsp. active dry yeast
2 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 cup warm milk
2 tbsp. olive oil
1 egg
about 1/4 cup additional all-purpose flour
Method:
1) In the bowl of your electric mixer, mix together the flours, yeast, sugar and salt.
2) Stir in milk, followed by the olive oil and egg. Beat the mixer on high for 2 minutes.
3) On low speed, add about 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour and mix until well combined.
4) Turn out dough onto a floured surface and knead 50 times (or "turns"). Cover with a cloth and let it sit on the counter for 10 minutes.
5) Shape dough into a loaf and place in a greased 9"x 5" loaf pan. Cover with a cloth and leave it in a warm place until risen 1 inch above the rim of the pan, around 40 minutes.
6) Meanwhile, preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Bake for 15 minutes. Open oven door, pop a foil tent over the bread to prevent over browning, and bake for a further 15 minutes.
7) Remove immediately from the pan onto a wire rack. Let it cool 15-20 minutes before slicing.
Masha'Allah it is very easy and quick to make since it only really has one proper 'rise'. Hope you enjoyed this post and let me know if you give it a go, insha'Allah. Until next Friday.
Love and wasalaam,
Maryam
