Ramadan Reward Calendar Craft - part 2

Assalamu Alaikum!
In today's post we will be showing you how we completed last Friday's craft. This was a fun project to work on although it did take some time to finish. We hope you like it, insha'Allah!

To complete this craft you will need:-
Thin felt (3 different colours)
Black or white felt (for the numbers)
Glue
Fabric scissors
Embroidery thread
Needle
Yardstick/ruler
Pen/fabric chalk
A large button
Card
Wool

So last week we left the calendar looking like this.
The next step is optional, but Maryam did some embroidery along the bottom of the calendar and added some felt flowers.
After that we flipped the calendar around. As you can see it looks a bit messy with all the stitching so we decided to cover it up.
You will need to cut a large rectangle out of each of your different coloured felts. They should each be 7 1/2 inches wide and 25 inches long.
Place them in any order you like. You should have a bit more than you actually need.
Carefully glue them down and trim off any excess felt. Then flip the calendar around and now you can decorate the dome and minarets with the scraps of leftover felt. Cut them into strips, triangles and other geometric shapes and place them however you like.
Once you are satisfied with the way it looks you can glue them into place.
Then you can cut out felt numbers for the pockets. We printed the numbers onto some card, cut them up and traced around them onto the felt. We chose to do Arabic numbers but you can do whatever you like.
Place some card inside the pockets when gluing the numbers down. This is so you don't end up gluing your pocket shut(in case the glue seeps through the felt).
When you are done, roll up the calendar from the bottom like you would a prayer mat. It doesn't have to be very tightly rolled up, though.
Then take a pen and mark where to put the button as shown below.
Sew the button in place taking care not to sew all the way through the thick black felt on the other side. You don't want to spoil the side with the pockets! Lastly, you will need to attach some wool to the top of the minarets. The length of our wool was around 76 inches long.
And you are finally done!
You can give the calendar a quick hoover whenever you want to clean it. When it is rolled up the wool wraps around it and hooks onto the button as shown below.
It would make a lovely Ramadan gift but could also be used throughout the year - perhaps as an organiser for home-schooling kids. At least that's what we plan on doing, insha'Allah.
We will be hanging it in Zainab and Sumayyah's bedroom during Ramadan, but until then we are putting it away. Masha'Allah, it is quite handy that it rolls up and therefore stays neat and doesn't take up much space.
Alhamdulillah, we are so pleased with the way this craft turned out! We hope you liked it too and we will see you next week, insha'Allah!

Wassalam,

  1. I'd love to make this, but I'm not sure when. Also, felt is really a problem to get good quality... I think? Maybe I'll make it for next Ramadhaan inshaa Allaah.

    1. Assalamu Alaykum.
Glad you liked the craft! It did take us three days to make.
You can find the thick felt at Al Rownaq (the one near Souq Waqif). They have them on rolls and in a variety of colours. The thin felt we got at Daiso.
Masha'Allah Ramadan is very close and we're looking forward to it. :)
